HIZEN5 TAKEO Porcelain Glass Pen – Large Kairagi (Crackle) features a naturally fractured glaze surface, where the shrinking glaze forms fine crackles reminiscent of ume blossom bark. This distinctive “Kairagi” texture is prized in Takeo ware for its quiet roughness and subdued depth, revealing a surface that feels alive rather than polished. With continued use, the crackle pattern subtly emerges and deepens, allowing the pen to age gracefully alongside its owner.

About Takeo Ware: Often described as “Edo-era modernism,” Takeo ware is a rare ceramic tradition originating from Takeo, located in the Saga prefecture of Japan that embraces both pottery and porcelain. Drawing from techniques such as iron painting, green glaze, brush marks, and textured surfaces—expressing a distinctly individual ceramic philosophy rooted in experimentation and material honesty.

Note: Each pen is finished by hand, resulting in slight variations that reflect the artisan’s touch rather than mechanical repetition, making each piece unique.
